Abstract
About 60% of vernacular private houses as important cultural assets by national government (Jyubun Minka) are owned by individuals. They have special problems about maintenance, preservation and effective use of them. In this paper, we examined problems of Jyubun 0Minka from the questionnaire surveys for house owners and local government staffs and considered the potential to educate supporters for Jyubun Minka in the local community. The main findings are as follows. 1) Many elderly house owners maintain Jyubun Minka by themselves. 2)To educate supporters for Jyubun Minka ,it is important to make the learning opportunity for local residents to deepen the understanding of cultural values of Jyubun Minka.
