Abstract

This study focuses on sunroom-equipped housing units supplied by Hokkaido, capturing the actual conditions of supply and presenting a renovation plan based on these conditions. The results of the study are as follows: 1) Hokkaido supplied 5061 units with sunrooms between 1985 and 1999. And five classifications based on insulation performance are obtained. Thermal environment simulations captured the intermediate-area role of sunrooms. 2) Sunroom use is characterized by differences in insulation specifications. Residents feel little burden to manage, and generally rate the use of sunrooms highly.3) Proposals are made for renovation and new plan that would facilitate the actual use.
