Abstract

Rethinking the Value of Homes through the Utilization of Vacant Suburban Houses. The purpose of this practical activity is to clarify the new value of “home” in the changing social environment due to the pandemic and the increase of vacant houses through the case study of the renovation of an apartment with a workshop that we designed. Therefore, as part of the research for the design, operation, improvement, and disclosure of the renovation plan, we conducted a dialogue about “moving” with professionals and artists outside the field of architecture, and analyzed the results. Based on these practices, we hope to reconsider the value of “home” and show how to renovate and operate vacant suburban houses that exist throughout Japan.
