Abstract

A 4-year-old male German Shepherd was presented for evaluation of left hind-limb lameness. Radiographical examination showed osteolysis of the tibia. A tentative diagnosis of osteosarcoma was made by needle-core-biopsy, and the left hind limb was amputated. Final diagnosis was made by histopathologic examination, as synovial sarcoma. Despite the adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin, carboplatin, ifosfamide and dacarbazine, the dog died 198 days postoperatively due to systemic metastases. Necropsy revealed systemic metastases of the synovial sarcoma to the skin, gingiva, kidneys, adrenal glands, lung, hilar lymph node, esophagus, diaphragm, pancreas, bladder, prostate, mediastinum, heart, frontal bone and eyeballs.
