A Case of Lumbar Vertebral Fracture in a Dog

Abstract

A female mongrel dog (1 year old, 6.3 kg) was admitted with a sign of severe paralysis of hind limbs due to automobile accident. Radiographic examination revealed fifth lumbar vertebral fracture and pelvic fracture. By laminectomy and reduction of the lumbar vertebral fracture with pin and wire, nervous function rapidly recovered. In a month postoperatively, almost complete recovery from the paralysis was observed.
