Abstract
We examined the effects of freeze-storing rumen fluid and of sterilization conditions on ruminal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentrations. There was no significant difference in LPS concentrations between the supernatants of freeze-stored and fresh rumen fluid. Moreover, there was no significant difference in LPS concentrations between rumen fluids stored in LPS-free and non-LPS-free containers. The results of the present study indicate that freeze-stored rumen fluid can be used to determine ruminal LPS concentrations.
