Abstract

The recommended surgical interventions for treating canine prostatic cysts include resection and omentalization. While there have been reports of laparoscopic and robotic resection procedures for prostatic cysts in human medicine, the veterinary field lacks any documented instances of simultaneous laparoscopic resection and omentalization of prostatic cysts. Additionally, knowledge regarding the laparoscopic approach in the area of periprostatic surgery is limited. In our study, we demonstrate the feasibility of performing a laparoscopic partial resection of a prostatic cyst and subsequent omentalization in a dog with an extraparenchymal prostatic cyst. We found that using extracorporeal traction on a support suture over the cyst apex greatly facilitated laparoscopic access to the surgical site at the base of the extraparenchymal prostatic cyst. Importantly, no intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed. As a result, laparoscopic surgery emerges as a viable surgical treatment option for the management of extraparenchymal prostatic cysts in dogs.
