Abstract

From sewage water and activated sludge 150 strains of bacteria were isolated. Of them, 10 strains were selected for having an ability both to form zooglea and to remove nitrogen from artificial media. Of the 10 strains, three were tested for removal of ammoniac nitrogen from artificial media. Rubazonic reaction was applied to the quantitative analysis of ammoniac nitrogen.
It was found that about 35 per cent of the ammoniac nitrogen had been removed during a period from 48 to 120 hours.
