Abstract
Fourteen equine cases of cecal constipation colic were found to be complicated with constipation at the ascending colon. Three etiological factors could be considered: the specific morphology of the cecum of the horse, ingestion of fibrous feed, such as hay, and physiological antiperistalsis of the greater colon. Constipation was presumed to have been aggravated gradually by the antiperistalsis.
Anatomicopathological examination revealed edema or hardening by passive congestion in the intestine, which had been induced by pressure of constipation.
