Abstract
In the fall of 1974, Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection broke out among mink in Hokkaido, and 1, 883 mink died of it. Fatality rate was higher in 5-month-old animals than in adults. P. aeruginosa type 8 was isolated from organs of dead animals, feces of infected animals, sewage of the shed, and soil of the passage.
An inoculation program with a dose of 100-375 μg of OEP vaccine was performed over a period from 2 to 4 weeks after the beginning of the outbreak. As a result, fatality was reduced and antibody increased in titer in the indirect hemagglutination reaction. Therefore, this vaccine seemed to be effective, at least to some extent, against the spontaneous occurrence of this type of infection.
