Abstract
Four normal calves, Nos. 1 to 4, were administered orally with 300, 100, 50, and 25kg, respectively, of the insecticidal carbamate, 2-sec-butylphenyl-N-methylcarbamate (BPMC).
(1) Salivation, miosis, difficulty in standing up, tachypnea, tachycardia, slight elevation of body temperature, and diarrhea were observed in 3 calves, Nos.1 to 3. They occurred within 7 to 10 minutes after administration. No.1 died 25 minutes later. The other calves recovered.(2) Depression of choline esterase activity of plasma and red blood cells was marked in all the calves, except No.4. A slight increase in erythrocyte count was seen in Nos. 1 and 2 mild leukocytosis and neutrophilia in Nos. 2 and 3 and a slight increase in serum total protein in all the calves.(3) It was considered that BPMC might be absorbed rapidly from the alimentary tract and discharged early.
