Abstract
Twenty grazing cattle were affected with severe anemia due to Theileria infection. Nine of them were transfused with heparinized whole blood obtained from a healthy donor. The others were given chemical treatment alone. The results of treatment are summarized as follows.
Transfusion with whole blood (500-1, 000ml) was more effective than chemotherapy. Mild side effects appeared after the second transfusion. When the gastrointestinal movement ceased, chemical treatment was in effective, but whole blood transfusion was proved to be a valuable treatment. Hematocrit value exceeded 20% after the transfusion.
