Abstract
During the past fiive years Cheyletiella mites have been obtained from four puppies and one kitten in Yamagata Prefecture. They were identified as Cheyletiella yasguri, since they had the morphological features of the species described by Smiley (1965).
The puppies were in good physical condition, though suffering from pruritus and excessive scurf of the dorsum. The Kitten showed not obvious signs. Treatment with acaricide by dipping or spraying 2 or 3 times was usually effective.
An irritating dermatitis was observed in several persons of four families keeping the affected animals. It disappeared quickly after the affected animals were treated successfully.
