Abstract
A 4-year-old male Japanese cat died of renal failure with anorexia and emesis. Necropsy revealed swelling of the left kidney with blood coagulation in the renal pelvis and hypoplasia of the right kidney. Histologically, congestive edema and parasitic embolism, which was caused by Dirofilaria immitis infection, were observed in the lung. The characteristic change in the left kidney was eosinophilic interstitial nephritis with formation of tissue clefts. These pathological findings suggested that renal failure in the present case might be caused by parenchymal injury following larval migration of Dirofilaria immitis in the left kidney.
