Abstract

Nearly 4, 400 nucleotides encoding the spike protein of canine coronavirus (CCV), strain 5821, were determined for the sequences of the 5'- end, middle and 3'- end regions, and the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences were compared with those of CCV strains, INSAV C-1 and K378 and of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) virus strains, KU-2 and 79-1146. The nucleotide sequences of the 3'- end and middle regions of the gene were highly conserved in all the CCV strains examined, resembling those of the FIPV 79-1146 strain. The CCV 5821 strain showed the 5'- end nucleotide sequence, which were more similar to that of the FIP strain 79-1146 than other strains of CCV.
