Abstract
Oral administration of ivermectin to 6 dogs with generalized demodicosis resulted in clinicalimprovements in all cases. Four of the dogs received 0.6 mg/kg every 24 hours. Mild ivermectin toxicosis wasobserved in one of these dogs, to which 2.5 mg/kg were administered inadvertently. This side effect disappearedimmediately after treatment stopped. For the other animals in this group, treatment lasted 7 weeks in one case, 12 weeks in one case, and 3 months in one case. The fifth dog received 0.4 mg/kg daily for 8 months. In this case, relapse occurred 3 months after treatment stopped; and the same therapy was repeated for an additional 2 months. Treatment of the sixth dog, to which 0.6 mg/kg was administered every other day, lasted 12 months. Daily oral administration of 0.6 mg/kg proved to be the most effective treatment for dogs with generalized demodicosis.
