Abstract
Giardia intestinalis antigen in fecal samples was examined in 513 household adult dogs aged two to 17 years old in the Tohoku region, using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. G. intestinalis antigen was detected in 13%(65/513) of the fecal specimens. The positive rate was not affected by such factors as fecal condition, age, sex, origin, method or circumstances of keeping or locality of dogs. The present results suggest that G. intestinalis infection is widespread among household adult dogs.
