Abstract
As epidemic disease in pigs characterized by diarrhea, vomitting in some cases, and high mortality of suckling pigs was found in Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures in Japan. From the intestinal mucosa of the diseased pigs a virus was demonstrated as the causative agent and has been passaged serially through pigs. Field observations and experimental studies in Japan indicated a similarity to those of TGE in USA, and the virus is very closely related, if not identical from the antigenic point of view, with that of TGE in swine in USA.
