Abstract
In this study, we developed a visual analysis environment that allows various stakeholders to participate in habitat suitability index (HSI) modeling. HSI model quantitatively evaluates suitability of the earth environment for habitat of the target species. HSI model is developed by the specialists of biology with statistical analysis tools generally. However, participation of various stakeholders such as fishermen is important not only for improving accuracy of the model but also for formulating implicit knowledge of the target species. User interface of the visual analysis environment developed in this study was designed that allow various stakeholders to participate. Therefore, the visual analysis environment is optimized to run on the tablet devices. Stakeholders can develop an HSI model interactively with analyzing relation between ocean environment and fish catches using both geometric and variable views with our visual analysis environment.
