Biomimetics Image Retrieval Engine

― Application of Associative Image Search ―

Abstract

This article presents a new data retrieval engine “Biomimetics image retrieval engine,” which has been developed on the basis of the theory of associative image search. Biomimetics is a new research area that creates innovation via the collaboration of different existing research fields. The biomimetics image retrieval engine based on the associative image search visualizes SEM images accumulated in a database and (1) allow biology researchers from different fields to make new discoveries and (2) allow engineers to obtain new knowledge from existing bio-organisms. The biomimetics image retrieval engine presented in this article is an implementation of an industrial collaboration platform that supports manufacturing via integrating accumulated knowledge in a cross-field database.
