This paper introduces music information processing research regarding visualization with musical notations. Musical notation represents rich musical content such as pitch-spelling, dynamics marks, and meter. It can also accelerate communication among music information researchers and musicians as it is familiar to musicians. In order to leverage musical notation as visualization, a computer needs to recognize content to represent in a score from other formats such as piano rolls and acoustic signals which have been widely used in music information processing. This paper discusses the issues and their current solutions for leveraging musical notation other than multi-pitch analysis and rhythm recognition.
