Abstract

The numerical simulation of the mode vibration of a violin body and the sound fields around it is introduced in this paper. In the number simulation, a 3D model of real violin is acquired using a laser scanner and the visualization of the mode vibration of top / back plate of violin is performed by a finite element method. Because violin body is made of wood (spruce, maple), in consideration of the orthotropic properties, the parametric analysis about the influence on near sound field when the elastic coefficient and thickness, density change is performed. On the other hand, as the identification of the timbre of violin, the spectrum envelope and formant frequency are inspected. The identification experiment of timbre of violin by the questionnaire to subjects and that by the neural network which trained by spectrum envelope are conducted.
