Abstract
In Particle image velocimetry (PIV), it is necessary to analyze a lot of images at the same time to increase the amount of information, to improve the measurement accuracy or to understand the compound three dimensional flow field. When the analyzed image is increased, however, a lot of computing time is necessary since the amount of information increases rapidly.
In this paper, a simple algorithm was described to obtain the three dimensional flow velocity from thousands of sequential image data obtained by a high-speed video camera. Though only one video camera is used, the measurement of the three-dimensional velocity vector distribution in the two-dimensional sections is enabled by measurement of the time interval which the particles pass through a multi-layer laser sheet.
