Surface damaged layer is a materially deterioration in the machined surface, which caused by the heat occurring in the machining process. In the manufacturing field, this problem is important because the formation of the surface damaged layer much affects on the quality of machined material surface.
In this study, a concept to predict the depth of a surface damaged layer has been proposed with a combination of wavelets transform and vectorization. As a result, the depth of layer calculated from a real image indicates a tendency of hardness test measurement.
