It has been found that a new field emitter using a <110>-oriented TiC single crystal (TiC<110>) tip shows highly stable emission under appropriate “surface-processing”. The field emission pattern and current stability of the surfaceprocessed TiC <110> tip are discussed compared with those of the clean TiC tip.
