Abstract
The wind stability of cable-stayed bridge with the 2-edge I-shaped girder without overhang of the girder floor slab was investigated by wind tunnel experiments. Since the target was a medium to small scale cable-stayed bridge with narrow width, the side length ratio of the standard section was very small; B/D=4.9. As it was confirmed that the wind stability of the standard section was extremely low, countermeasures using fairings were taken to improve the wind stability. The proposed fairing improved the flutter performance, but there was no clear correlation with θf which is the angle between the inclined and horizontal portions of the fairing. The critical flutter wind speed was higher in the order of θf = 23°, 16° and 30°, and in the order of the ratio of the height of the fairing tip to the girder height D’/D = 0.25, 0.50 and 0.50.
