Abstract
Effects of dilute sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide pretreatment of spent Maitake (Grifola frondosa) culture medium (SMCM) on its cellulase saccharification were investigated. As the result, the dilute sulfuric acid showed no significant differences between SMCM with and without the pretreatment. On the other hand, the sodium hydroxide produced a significant effect. This was because lignin and hemicellulose were more removed from SMCM by sodium hydroxide pretreatment than by dilute sulfuric acid pretreatment. In addition, the SMCM with sodium hydroxide pretreatment showed much higher glucose yield than original buna sawdust and Maitake culture medium (MCM) before Maitake inoculation. This result indicates that SMCM is a woody biomass which is saccharified more easily after the pretreatment compared to original culture medium and raw material buna sawdust.
