Prediction of Panel Buckling Produced in Deck of Car Carrier during Assembly by Welding

Abstract

Thin plates often buckle after welding stiffeners to the plates. To avoid this, it is necessary to accurately predict welding residual stress and develop welding procedures that minimize it. The objective of the reported work is to investigate welding procedures to find out that which minimizes residual stress to avoid plate buckling. It is found that intermittent welding is effective in preventing plate buckling.
