Study of the Evaporation of Mg During Pulsed MIG Arc Welding of Aluminum Alloy

Abstract

It is well know that Mg evaporated during pulsed MIG arc welding of aluminum alloy of 5000 series to form fume or smut. In this report, the autors reported the results achived by analyzing Mg contents at the tip of droplets which were got at different pulsed period. Also, a novel method was used to observe the evaporation of Mg from droplet surface by using high speed video.
