Abstract
To evaluate the formability in welds of ferritic stainless steels, the modified Erichsen cupping test was performed to the plates bead-on-plated by TIG welding and laser beam welding. From the test results, it was revealed that, in the case of TIG welded specimens, the Erichsen values were less than those of base metals. In contrast, the values in laser beam welded ones were almost same in the base metals, due to grain growth suppressed in the welds. Therefore, it was concluded that laser beam welding is useful for making the pipes needed formability.
