Effect of Fresh Weight on Stem Diameter and Strength in Eustoma Grandiflorum ‘Piccolosa Snow’

Abstract

Flowers face many physical stresses from cultivation in farms to the following distribution and sales system. Broken cut flowers devalue their marketability. Here, the author investigated the relationship between stem diameter and strength of Eustoma grandiflorum 'Piccolosa Snow'. Experimental results revealed the following facts: (1) stem strength increased with stem diameter; (2) decreasing of fresh weight brought a higher increase rate of stem strength per diameter.
