Foreign language teachers often want to use movies in the classroom because movies are a rich source of both language and culture and contain themes that can stimulate thought and discussion. However, showing movies to students without doing the time-consuming preparation of tasks for students to do before, during, and after watching the movie can limit the educational benefits. Using a Movie Journal solves this problem, and contains five questions related to Summary, Reaction, Prediction, Culture and Language that students answer after watching a section of the movie in class. Writing in the Movie Journal before discussing the movie leads to more productive discussions as students have a chance to think about what they want to say and how best to express these ideas in the foreign language.

The Horikawa-River which flows down through the central part of the Nagoya city, is loved by many citizens. However, water pollution caused by domestic waste water, made the river into a “death-river”. In order to get it back to clean river, many efforts were carried out. From one year of the survey results, we can see that the main sources of the pollution are the waste water from municipal water treatment facility, and more efforts will be needed to .make the river clean.

The distribution of small plastic marine debris, called microplasctics, of Yoshizaki coast of Kusu-chou, Yokkaichi city was investigated in the spring of 2018. The number density of all the plastic fragments was 886 pieces/m². The abundant species were the plastic capsule of the chemical fertilizer, the fragment of the formed plastics, the fragment of the hard plastics and the resin pellets, in descending order. The total number of these four species accounts for the 95% of all the plastic fragments. The distribution of the microplastics was strongly concentrated at the center of the coastline, and the scatter of the number density among the measuring stations was also rather high. These suggest the necessity of measurement with substantial number of stations to assess the representative number density of the microplastics for a coast.

Flowers face many physical stresses from cultivation in farms to the following distribution and sales system. Broken cut flowers devalue their marketability. Here, the author investigated the relationship between stem diameter and strength of Eustoma grandiflorum 'Piccolosa Snow'. Experimental results revealed the following facts: (1) stem strength increased with stem diameter; (2) decreasing of fresh weight brought a higher increase rate of stem strength per diameter.
