Abstract

Analysis of satellite images and field surveys revealed the actual situation of land area expansion phenomena observed on the coastal area of Bengkalis Island in Riau, Indonesia, where a peatland coast is observed. The actual condition of the land extension phenomenon was the occurrence of temporary peat fans associated with peatland landslides. Furthermore, the area of this temporary peat fan decreased with increasing wind speed. A comparison of the number of temporary peat fan occurrences with the periodic precipitation shows that the high peat fan increases the number of temporary peat fans. Therefore, it was revealed that peatland landslides are caused by rainfall and increase with precipitation.
