Abstract

In order to build the vision of engineering industry for sustaining regional community coping with super aging society in Japan, the new business research group in Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA) has been examining the ideal form of social infrastructure incorporating the latest smart technology and infrastructure business. Based on the prospects of “National Land Grand Design 2050” and “Smart City” projects in Japanese government policy, we focus the developing process through holistic approach of typical type of compact/smart city cases. Conducting field survey and case analysis of Toyama city and Aizu-wakamatsu city selected as typical successful cases, we show the demanded state of smart infrastructure and the possibilities of the related business introduction and continuity in each case. The case analysis involves roadmapping process with hierarchical layers such as social issues, service/business, infrastructure, smart technology (IoT, AI, RT) where various measures in each local government case are mapped.
