Marine pelagic diatoms from offshore waters in the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea were examined. The material collected in the duration from Dec. 1955 to Feb. 1956 showed that the area rich in diatoms was confined only in neritic waters off Venezuela. Eighty-three diatoms in thirty genera, including 22 species of Chaetoceros, 12 of Rhizosolenia and 11 of Coscinodiscus, appeared under the microscope.
Descriptions are also made about infraspecific forms of three species of Chaetoceros, i.e., Ch. lorenzianus form singularis f. nov., Ch. didymus form singularis f. nov., Ch. affinis form singularis subform extremis subf. nov. and subform ferox subf. nov., which seem to be new to the science.
