Abstract
By means of enthalpy-concentration diagram, and the reaction velocity diagram for the synthetic ammonia process, temperature and concentration distributions are calculated in the adiabatic one pass type converter (Tokyo Kogyo Shikenjo plant), the two pass type converter (I.G. plant, Fauser plant), the U tube three pass type converter (Uhde plant), the double tube three pass type converter (Uhde plant), and the double tube four pass type converter (N.E.C. plant), and the special features are compared.
Necessary work for synthetic ammonia process is now about 1500 HP hr/ton NH3 at the industrial plant. This energy is consumed as degradation of free energy at many parts of the cycle. The distribution of free energy degradation is calculated and discussed.
