Abstract
Experimental studies of pressure drop characteristics by use of a perforated tray under oscillating condition have been conducted in air-water system. Except for a low F-factor region, sinusoidal pressure drop characteristics are obtained and the period coincides with the tray oscillation. Maximum pressure drop is obtained when the tray moves from inlet weir side to outlet weir side, and minimum pressure drop is obtained when the tray moves from outlet weir side to inlet weir side. It is also found that the liquid inertia makes difference between liquid and tray movement, and that the main cause of pressure variation is liquid hold-up change in the tray.
The pressure drop difference decreases with F-factor or with increase in outlet weir height, while it increases with liquid flow, angle of oscillation and increase in period of oscillation.
