The author discovered by the study of the acupuncture medicine that the five elemental positive circulation (concerning the shallow pulse) and the five elemental negative circulation (concerning the deep pulse) really exist in the pulse-diagnosis region of radial artery. This time he made out the diagram to represent the five elemental circulations of positive and negative at the same time. He divided into this diagram emptiness (=inanitas)-fullness (=vigor) and tonification (=tonic)-sedation (=sedativ) of the acupuncture, and got ten figures (Fig. 1 B). They essentially connect with the constitutions, which are in common between the Kampo medicine and the acupuncture medicine.
From this way of thinking, he apportioned each of the Chinese decoct drugs to these figures. After this, he connected emptiness-fullness of the five elemental circulation with tonification-sedation and heat (= calefacio)-cold (=refrigere) of every medicine composed the decoct drugs. The strongest combination of these ten figures was regarded as the five elemental circulation of the corresponding decoct drugs (Fig. 2). As the result of this, the main symptom of the five elemental circulation in the acupuncture medicine was adsolutely identified with the three Yinn and the three Yang of the Shokan-Ron (therefore with air-blood-water-pathology)(Fig. 3).
This study is considered to take a step forw ard a unification between the acupuncture medicine and the Kampo medicine.
