Abstract

Crude oils generally have low flash points and then some pre-treatment is necessary to use them as ship fuel. We have conducted intensive researches into the possible method obtaining such treated oils that meet the Lloyd's and other requirements. From the experiment of steam-distillation of the crude oils, the following results have been obtained : 1. By blowing steam into the crude oil and extracting out low flash point elements contained in it, the flash point of crude oil can be elevated easily and promptly. 2. By properly adjusting the amount of steam blown and the time of treatment, the treated oil having a predetermined flash point over the range of 0〜80℃ can be obtained. 3. The Seria treated oil has physical properties analogous to A heavy oil, and Kuwait treated oil to B heavy oil, and both are assumed to be usable as high-quality fuel oils for boilers and diesel engines.
