Recently, non-greasing bearings (or non-lubricating bearings) have been applied to the various mechanisms. However, little work has been done on evaluating the following points; (1) How high contact pressure is allowable for these bearing materials such as used for hand operated device under the condition of low speed and high load? (2) What effect will receive on the characteristics of the non-greasing bearing materials under the condition of repeated sea water pressure or repeatedly immersed into sea water? Then various tests on some non-greasing bearing materials were performed and the results were as follows: (1) Combination of Starlite-Selb (Phenol resin) bearing or Hitalock (Graphite) bearing and stainless steel shaft is preferable, as the results show that any scratch or crack was not found on both shaft and bearing under the contact pressure of 100 kg/cm^2. (2) Combination of Starlite-Selb bearing or Hitalock bearing and naval brass shaft is preferable under the contact pressure of less than 30 kg/cm^2. In case of the contact pressure of more than 30 kg/cm^2 some scratches were found on the shaft. (3) Combination of Molib-Metal bearing and stainless steel shaft is preferable under the contact pressure of less than 5 kg/cm^2. In case of the contact pressure of more than 10 kg/cm^2, the bearing was crept by the pressure. (4) Combination of Molib-Metal bearing and naval brass shaft is not recommendable because some scratches were found on the shaft under the contact pressure of only about 1 kg/cm^2. On applying the above results, careful attention should be necessary on the dimensions, surrounding conditions, sliding speed, operating frequency and required life of the bearing.
