Abstract

Since increasing exports of heavy goods such as machine tools, chemical equipments, heavy transport vehicles etc., it is running current to install a split topping cargo gear system on board such vessels as heavy lifters and cargo liners. Adopting the split topping and tri-pod mast, the authors developed the MITSUBISHI TRI-POD HEAVY cargo gear which can be served on two opposite hatches of the mast. This paper gives an account of details of design, the computation method of the mast structure and the comparison between calculated strees and actual stress on the MITSUBISHI TRI-POD HEAVY cargo gear, by way of example, on WAKAMATSU MARU (NYK, 11,000t cargo liner).
