Abstract

Model tests were made to investigate the characteristics of mushroom anchors. Five mushroom anchors and a stockless anchor are used in the tests. From the model tests, the holding power and the hoisting load of the mushroom anchor are given as follows: Hoisting load at start, sand F=0.750sA+0.044W Hoisting load, apeak, mud F=0.408sA+2.32W Hoisting load, apeak, sand F=0.237sA+1.15W Holding power, mud F=0.655sA+0.992W Holding power, sand F=0.655sA+0.992W where, F=power or load(kg) A=projected area of the mushroom cap(m^2) W=weight of the anchor(kg) s=shearing strength of the bed soil(kg/m^2) formula] [numerical formula] [numerical formula] [numerical formula] It has a tendency that holding power or hoisting load is mainly dependent on the projected area (A) and the weight of the anchor (W), but less on the shape of the mushroom cap.
