Abstract

In this paper, the record of hull construction of a new full container ship is reported, There was only the record of the full container ships of Matson Line, which were converted, and nobody has experience of constructing any container ship in Japan. In such circumstances, Mitsubishi Kobe Shipyard had the opportunity to construct three new container ships at the same time, in which the "HAKONEMARU" was the first one in our country. The container ship is to be a large super high-speed liner, having cell construction with huge hatch openings, of which construction is much different from that of the ordinary cargo ship. In connection with hull construction of the container ship, we studied on many problems which might be encountered in the process. After the investigation, our special attention was focused to the following points : 1) Promotion and maintenance of the accuracy in the hull construction. 2) Development of a construction method for cell construction. Then, these points were devided into detailed items and we considered how to deal with them. As the result of these studies, the construction was successfully carried out and totally obtained a good result.
