Abstract

The authors developed a computer program for calculation of natural frequencies of plates of arbitrary shape under various boundary conditions based on Rayleigh-Ritz method. In this paper, design charts for the estimation of natural frequencies of plates, which are often observed in actual hull structures, are provided by performing a series of calculation with the program. The vibration measurements on full scale model were also carried to compare with the calculation. From both obseved and calculated results, the authors present a method to reflect actual boundary conditions of the plate on it's natural frequencies at design stage.
