Distribution of Container Weight and Statical Torsional Moment due to Cargo Load Investigated from On-board Data

Abstract

In order to gather the loading data of container ships in service, investigation have been carried out for six container ships, the number of voyage of which amounts to twenty three in total. The summary of analysis for these data are as follows. (I) The distribution and variance of container weight in vertical and longitudinal directions have been obtained and these will be useful for future design. (II) The accuracy of approximate calculation of loading manual supplied to the ship have proved to be practicable. (III) The estimation formula of statical torsional moment due to container weight has been obtained.
