Abstract

Fluid-transfer flexible-hose has developed for transferring nitric gas from charging gas equipment on the floating platform to the drilling unit on the sea bed. This fluid-transfer system by flexible-hose is essential to the remote-controllable deep sea oil drilling unit, which has some problems with the use of the system in waves and tides as follows. (1) Tangle between the flexible-hoses and the other cables or tangle of the flexible-hoses themselves. (2) Strength of the flexible-hoses under inner pressure environment. Hose deflection tests and theoretical analyses were made on mechanical properties of the flexible-hose, deflection and tension of the flexible-hose under the external force to solve the above stated problems. As a result of this study, simple equations of maximum defiection and tension were obtained, and in future, will be useful to design the f1exible-hose of the same kind above mentioned.
