Basic Ship Design System by Personal Computer

Abstract

In ship design, CAD and CAM, along with the progress of computers, since 1960's, have been developed in various shipyards. Large or medium computers are mainly used in the systems of shipyards. The recent progress and diffusion of personal computer are conspicuous. Especially, its performance and convenience has great possibilities in the ship design field. In this paper, an attempt was made, to develop the lines of a design ship by l-C_p method, and calculate and draw Hydrostatic, Stability and Longitudinal Strength curves. B-spline curves are used in this system. An attempt to develop a basic ship design system using a personal computer was carried out.
