On the Shape of Stacks of Ships

Abstract

In this paper, the authors report on the shape of stacks of ships from the standpoint of avoiding smoke nuisance. It consists of the results of model experiments in a windtunnel, observation of smoke during actual ship trials, theoretical calculation of flow around the stack, and the results of experiments on the pressure distributions on the various stacks. Furthermore the general description on the various kinds of method of avoiding smoke nuisance is made, refering to other papers on this subject.
