When planning the machinery parts of marchant ships, estimation of machinery weight is an important matter for machinery cost estimation, initial designing of hull and strength calculation. In this paper, the authors examine into total machinery weight of turbine ships which have been built by Japanese ship yards during recent years, and it is revealed that the total machinery weight tends to increase by the application of high pressure steam to marine installation.
