Abstract

Instead of steel plates, F.R.P. plates are used partly for the fairwater construction of the "Oyashio", the first submarine built in Japan after the termination of the World War II. The American submarines built in recent years have fairwater construction entirely made of F.R.P. plates. However, the "Oyashio" is the first ship in Japan in which F.R.P. plates are used partly for hull construction. Therefore, the author gives below the outline of the specification, result of tests of material, construction method and the method and the method of fixing acrilite plates to be used in this connection.
